Background

The Chorus & Orchestra of Anna Maria Island – the voice of great music for the community and beyond – is a unique and accomplished Chorus and Orchestra. Entering its 27th season, the organization has become a cultural mainstay of the Florida Gulf Coast. Chorus and orchestra members are made up of both volunteer and professional musicians. This pairing and combination of backgrounds and experience make the organization quite unusual in that choruses and orchestras usually work separately. The Chorus & Orchestra of Anna Maria Island, a symphonic chorus and orchestra, perform a repertoire chosen from the beloved classics, opera and signature American popular music. Performing concerts from December through March, as well as Symphony on the Sand each November, it attracts audiences from Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, Sarasota, Manatee County and the larger Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area.

Recognized for high quality of performance and the vitality of support from its audiences and press, the organization continues to nurture musical talent among youth. A concerto competition for qualified young music students takes place each January. The winner is offered a substantial monetary prize, publicity, mentoring and a featured performance at an AMICCO concert.

In addition, The Chorus & Orchestra of Anna Maria Island presents myriad outreach programs for civic, cultural and educational organizations, including public talks at libraries and service clubs.

Volunteer

There is another important group in AMICCO that must be recognized. These are the volunteers without whom the organization could not exist. Yes, some Chorus and Orchestra members are volunteer performers. But most of the administrative and business functions of AMICCO are performed by volunteers who are not musicians.

They are members of the Board of Directors. They are the workers behind the scenes who manage AMICCO’s financial affairs, raise funds, sell program ads, work on the committees, sell tickets to concerts, usher and serve as hosts at receptions and other AMICCO events.

They do all this because they absolutely love good music and because they strongly support what AMICCO contributes to the cultural life of the greater Tampa Bay area. We invite you to join us.
