Founded in 1992, AMICCO is made up of professional and volunteer musicians (many of them retired professionals) who love to make music together. Its repertoire is chosen from the beloved Classics, Opera and signature American music.
The Group performs four concerts from November through March. It has a devoted on-Island following. Off-island, it attracts audiences from Bradenton, Sarasota, Manatee County and the larger Tampa Bay area. Strong community support and excellent reputation are the results. AMICCO has been recognized for its high performance quality.
AMICCO's Artistic Director is Maestro Alfred Gershfeld who emigrated to the United States after a distinguished career in the Soviet Union. He is Professor of Conducting at the New World School of the Arts in Miami traveling frequently back and forth to Anna Maria to direct AMICCO's musical program. Maestro Gershfeld is a strong believer in providing community musical opportunities and in encouraging youth with musical talent. His rapport with musicians is outstanding. He has been the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of AMICCO since 1993.
